In recent years Dr. Vercoe has been a composer at the Civitella Ranieri Center in Italy, the Cité International des Arts in Paris, and the St. Petersburg Spring Music Festival in Russia. In 2003 she held the Acuff Chair of Excellence at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee. She has written works on commission for the Pro Arte Orchestra, Wellesley College, the MTNA, and Austin Peay State University and has received grants from the Artists Foundation, the Massachusetts Council for the Arts, NEA, and Meet the Composer.
She has collaborated with soloists and ensembles on performances in London, Paris, Boston, New York and San Francisco, including international festivals in Russia and Alaska and collaborative concerts of music and dance with the Beth Soll Dance Company.
A native of Washington, D.C. and a graduate of Wellesley College and the University of Michigan, she earned a doctorate in composition at Boston University where she studied with Gardner Read. She teaches at Regis College and divides her time between Maine and Massachusetts. Her music is recorded on Owl, Capstone, Leonarda and Centaur compact discs, and is published by Arsis Press and Plucked String Editions.
