my name is andrew weathers, i’m a composer and improviser based in greensboro, north carolina. i study music composition and percussion at the university of north carolina at greensboro, under alejandro rutty and mark engebretson. i try to tour and perform as much as i can, and in the past couple of years i’ve been lucky enough to travel all over the country and perform my music. i typically perform using a laptop and electric guitar, in a loose ‘composed improvisation’ form, under the name ‘pacific before tiger.’ that’s changing though; recently i’ve been performing under my own name.
most of my music takes the shape of long-form electro-acoustic works, which i think draws equally from three main sources: first, the ambient work of brian eno, as well as minimalist composers like steve reich, and contemporary sound art. recently i’ve been interested in the way that music interacts with its environment, bringing focus to aural details that are typically overlooked. i also try to work with silence as a musical element, and the perception of time found in the work of steve reich.
