Bethany Brown is a composer and pianist from Cave Creek, Arizona where she graduated as the valedictorian from Bella Vista Preparatory Academy. Bethany began her piano studies at the age of 11 and developed an initial love for the instrument under the instruction of Mrs. Karen Maison. Her love for the music of Brahms, Chopin and Debussy, as well as film music, inspired her to start composing. Bethany continues to develop her own compositional voice while exploring different styles and techniques of composition. Consequently, she has become increasingly enthralled with uses of extended instrumental techniques found in 20th century works. Bethany loves film and recognizes the enormous importance of film music. As such, she aspires to compose music for films and television. Bethany is realizing her goal by pursuing a concurrent Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition and Bachelor of Arts degree in Filmmaking Practices at Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. At ASU, Bethany has studied piano with Dr. Caio Pagano and composition under Dr. Jody Rockmaker and Dr. Doug Harbin. Bethany currently takes composition lessons with Dr. James DeMars. Bethany’s works have been premiered at the ASU Composition Recitals and at “Opus,” a concert presented at the Phoenix Art Museum by the ASU student chapter of the Society of Composers. Bethany also had the opportunity to have her string quartets “Restless” and “Before the Storm” read by the Juilliard String Quartet and the St. Lawrence String Quartet, respectively. As a lover of all arts, Bethany relishes collaboration, and continually seeks opportunities to work with other talented musicians, composers and artists.
