NEW CALLS FOR PARTICIPATION WITH DEADLINES

L'OBJET SONORE, AUG. 15
      Eyedrum Art and Music Gallery is seeking artists for L'Objet Sonore,
an
exhibition of sound art objects in the form of sculpture, kinetic sculpture,
multimedia work and installation, and whatever else that might creatively
fuse the realms of the visual and the aural to be held Jan. 17-Feb. 23.
This
will be an interactive evening of sound and structure with sound art objects
that react to the environment, the audience, or the occasional performer.
Six to eight proposals will be accepted.  Works must be able to coexist
spatially and aurally with other entries in the exhibition, and sound
elements should be of indefinite duration.  The exhibiting artists will
participate in a forum on Jan. 20.
      Deadline:  indicate intent to apply by Aug. 15; completed proposals
due
Sep. 15.  Submit:  written descriptions of visual and aural content of the
proposed work; photos or sketches; CD realization of sonic content if

CONTINENTAL HARMONY, SEP. 1/OCT. 1
       The American Composers Forum is accepting applications from
U.S. citizens and residents for several new Continental Harmony projects in
Ennis, MT; Phoenix, AZ; Denver, CO; Twin Falls, ID; Grinnell, IA;
Louisville,
KY; Bangor, ME; Macy, NE; Roswell, NM; Portland, OR; Montpelier, VT;
Newport,
WA; and Charleston, WV.  Selected composers will spend up to six weeks in
the
host community and will compose a new work to the community's
specifications.
Postmark deadlines:  Sep. 1 for MT; Oct. 1 all others.  Apply separately for
each opportunity with a written proposal, resume or bio, up to three
recommendations, up to three scores with CD or cassette recordings,

      Emerging composers of all ages who live in North America may submit
unperformed original carols up to three minutes long for SATB chorus with
percussion.  One or two pieces will be performed on the Plymouth Music
Series
Welcome Christmas! concerts and each winner will receive $1000.  The winners
must be or become members of the American Composers Forum, and are invited
to
attend the rehearsals and performances at their own expense.  Postmark
deadline:  Sep. 6.  Submit scores, percussion parts, proof of permission to

SCI REGION V CONFERENCE, SEP. 15
      The Society of Composers, Inc., Region V Conference will be held
Mar. 6-8, 2003, at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Scores will
be
accepted from all SCI regions with preference for scores by composers
residing in Region V.  Scores will also be accepted from non-members but
they
will not be programmed unless the composer becomes a member of SCI.
Composers are invited to submit scores for the following performers and
ensembles:  St. Paul Civic Symphony, with soloists or electronics, soloists
must be provided by the composer; Intergalactic Contemporary Ensemble, any
combination of string quartet, piano and french horn; Ancia Saxophone
Quartet; University of Minnesota Brass Choir; University of Riverfalls Brass
Quintet; Sartory String Quartet; Verederos flute and percussion duo;
Macalester College Symphony Orchestra, expanded chamber orchestra with
soloists or electronics; soloists must be provided by the composer; The
Macalester College Concert Choir, 40 voices with or without accompaniment;
Mac Jazz big band and combos; flute ensemble, one alto flute, intermediate
difficulty; Macalester African Music Ensemble, drums, singers, flutes,
marimbas, and more; Macalester College Bagpipe Band; Macalester New Music
Ensemble, ensemble of unspecified improvising musicians performing from
graphic scores or verbal directions; solos or ensembles up to four players
drawn from the following:  fl, recorder, cl, bsn, hn, tpt, tbn/bass tbn,
tuba, perc, gtr, pf, vn, va, vc, db, and soprano, mezzo, and baritone
voices.
      Deadline:  Sep. 15.  Please submit up to four pieces that are no
longer
than 15 minutes.  Submissions that include guest performers are encouraged;
the conference will provide a small travel honorarium for such performers.
Electro-acoustic music and pieces for soloist and electronics or other media
are welcomed; stereo and quadraphonic playback is available.  Macalester
College ensembles will be most receptive to pieces tailored to undergraduate
performers.  Submissions must include: Score and separate cassette or CD
recording for each submission; program notes; SASE; and a single page with
composer's name, address, telephone numbers, e-mail address, and list of
pieces submitted with durations.  For further information or to submit,
