4. Paper presentations, workshops, demonstrations, and/or panel discussions on any subject related to composing. Of particular interest is scholarship on the aesthetics and politics of post-9/11 composing.
Compositions for student ensembles should be of a level appropriate for undergraduate performers. Some faculty groups may also include student performers. Submissions that combine electronic and/or multimedia aspects with soloists, mixed chamber ensembles, and/or large ensembles are encouraged as are submissions that include guest performers and/or non-traditional approaches.
Compositions submitted for consideration should include scores with durations clearly marked on the outside cover and, if available, a recording. Proposals for digital media works, installations, and/or non-traditional pieces must list logistical and technical requirements and should include, if available, an audio recording and or video tape and/or other such demonstration materials. Proposals for presentations, demonstrations, workshops, and panels should include 3 copies of a double-spaced 1-page abstract, and a list of logistical and/or technical requirements.
Composers do not have to be SCI members to submit scores; a maximum of 3 works per composer will be considered for performance. All composers whose works are programmed must be SCI members at the time of the conference and must attend the conference. All parts and performance materials, bios, and program notes must be available immediately upon request. Preference in programming will be given to works under 15 minutes in duration. Composers whose works or proposals are selected for performance/presentation will be notified by December 7, 2002.
