Call for Submissions: Academic Writing
SCI members are invited to submit proposals for academic presentations on any aspect of music since 1900. Topics may include, but are not limited to music theory, analysis, history, ethnomusicology, performance, and composition. Abstracts 250 words (maximum) should be submitted via e-mail for consideration, and attached as a Word document (.doc or .docx format only, please). Please identify in the e-mail the author, institutional affiliation, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and presentation necessities (LCD Display, CD Player, etc.).
Guidelines for Submission of Scores
Please submit up to four compositions for consideration. For each work, submit a score, separate CD recording, program notes, and a contact sheet with the composers name, address, telephone number, email address, a list of works submitted with durations, and a brief bio. If you are able to supply performers, make sure that this is clearly indicated. Electro-acoustic music—for the selection process, please submit a DVD or CD. For multimedia works, please submit DVD format for consideration. If you wish your materials returned to you, please include an SASE. Some materials will be shipped to performers throughout the region, so return of materials cannot be guaranteed.
NOTE: scores for the Thelema Trio will be sent (by the conference host) directly to the trio members. If you would also like this piece to be considered in the general pool of Kansas State University faculty and student performers and other local performing resources, please submit two separate scores and recordings, and be sure to indicate this. (The local faculty performers on these instruments are among the most eager conference participants, so we should be able to program quite a bit of music for any subset of clarinet, saxophone, and piano.)
Selections will be made by the ensemble directors and performers, in coordination with the conference host. Playability and available rehearsal time will be a factor in all selection decisions. Composers will be notified in January, 2010.
Selected composers must provide all required performance materials. Kansas State University and/or SCI will not pay rental costs or other fees relating to performance materials.
