SCIUI programs two concerts per academic year in which University of Iowa composers and performers come together to present new music. We also bring in at least one guest composer and performer per academic year. The guest composer generaly presents his/her music in seminar, and interacts with University of Iowa student composers in masterclasses and/or individual meetings. In the case of a guest performer, student composers show recent works that were composed for the guest's instrument, and receive feedback from a professional. Last year, SCIUI presented composers Paul Siskind and Stephen Dembski.
This year SCIUI is helping to celebrate the University of Iowa School of Music's 100th Anniversary. We will be presenting two SCI concerts of new student compositions and informing the public about new music being performed in the area. We will also be enabling students to travel with the Center for New Music to a concert at the University of Minnesota.
