The Central Washington University composition department (Dr. Mark Polishook, chair) exhibits some of the most progressive trends in today's composition. Composers of many styles and interests are supported by the outstanding faculty and excellent performance studios. In addition, many unique and rewarding programs have been established. Examples include the possibility of studying at the Krakow Academy of Music through a direct exchange program, as well as the periodic commission of works by visiting, professional performers (both opportunites thanks to the hard work of Dr. Polishook). Recent graduates of the program have been admitted to some of the finest composition departments in the country. The host of the 2003 Region VIII SCI Conference, the CWU music department offers a variety of opportunities for the performance of new music. |
