Dalton H. Regnier (aka Dalton Ringey) is a composer and clarinetist based in Gainesville, FL whose music combines elements of surrealism, extremism, and drama. He has been commissioned by various musicians and ensembles, such as the University of Delaware Wind Ensemble, Hope College Wind Ensemble, trombonist Nathaniel Lease, and tenor Paul Patinka. He has also collaborated with several other chamber and large ensembles, including Sputter Box, Quince Ensemble, icarus Quartet, loadbang, and University of Delaware Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, Dalton was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Delaware Division of the Arts, which culminated in a recital featuring his solo and chamber works. In 2020, he received a Judge’s award in the Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble Composition Competition for his work “The Great Stone Face.” In 2022, he was the first prize winner of the inaugural ICA Low Clarinet Festival Composition Competition for his bass clarinet and marimba work “circuitbreaker.” He has also been a finalist for the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer’s Awards multiple times. His music has been featured at various festivals, including the Hot Air Music Festival, Indiana State University Contemporary Music Festival, and Connecticut Summerfest. He holds a PhD in music composition with a cognate in clarinet performance from University of Florida, a MM in both clarinet performance and composition from the University of Delaware, and a BM in music education from the University of Southern Maine. His dissertation examines how composers utilize contemporary techniques for the clarinet and bass clarinet. He studied composition with Scott Lee, Paul Richards, James Sain, and Jennifer Barker, and clarinet with Mitchell Estrin, Christopher Nichols, and Thomas Parchman. Dalton is a member of the Millenium Composers Initiative (MCI), International Clarinet Association (ICA) and ASCAP.
